Saturday, May 17th is the date the SFTARC plans to go on a mini-DXpedition to the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve for a day of Parks-on-the-Air (POTA) operating. The Tallgrass is located near Strong City, KS, about 100 miles southwest of Olathe. SFTARC club members as well as guests are invited to participate.

The photograph accompanying this story captured the scene at Ensor Park and Museum the morning of Saturday, January 11, which was just six days after a massive winter storm that produced blizzard-like conditions at times deposited several inches of snow in Olathe, many other locations across Kansas and Missouri, and elsewhere.

Field Day 2024 - Come Be Radio Active With Your Club

For many Amateur Radio Operators, Field Day is a highlight of the year
Peg KDØVQO and Ed KUØRTZ Operating Field Day If you haven't had your share of HF radio activity at home this year, this is your chance to "Be Radio Active". This year, we want members who have not been as active as they'd like to be to join in setting up and running the stations. ARRL Field Day is one of the largest operating events for amateur operators and radio clubs across America, with some contacts in foreign countries. It has been an annual event since it's start back in 1933, and provides an opportunity to practice emergency preparedness skills aimed at supporting the public in times of disaster when normal communications infrastructures fail. SFTARC has made it essentially a yearly event since the club was founded. In the earlier years, it was set up in various parks; however, since the 1980s, it has been held at the Ensor Park and Museum.

The SFTARC is Recognized by the National Park Service

Every year, just like clockwork, the SFTARC has brough a little bit of the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve to the rest of the amateur radio world. At the same time, we have brought the amateur radio into the public view. Those efforts have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated. As proof, the National Park Service has presented the SFTARC with a Volunteers-In-Parks Certificate to recognize our club's efforts for our May 2023 operation from the Tallgrass.
Some years the KS0KS call sign is used from the Tallgrass as a Special Event Station, with times and frequencies published in QST Magazine
